How to Use Cake Shapers
- 1). Turn on your oven and preheat the temperature to 350 degrees F. Make sure the oven trays are set in the middle of the oven.
- 2). Slick the inside of the cake shaper pan using vegetable shortening. Apply a generous amount of solid shortening to a paper towel or pastry brush and coat the inside of the pan. Make sure to reach all edges of the pan to ensure the cake doesn't stick. Douse two tbsp. of flour onto the inside of the pan. Flip the cake shaper upside down to remove any loose flour.
- 3). Prepare the batter of the cake according to the directions located on the box. Pour the batter into the cake shaper pan, spreading it evenly throughout the pan.
- 4). Place the cake shaper pan into the oven. Allow the cake to bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Use a toothpick to check the cake periodically to see if the inside of the cake has finished cooking. Insert a toothpick into the center of the cake. Remove the toothpick from the cake. If the liquid batter sticks to the toothpick it has not finished cooking. If you remove the toothpick and nothing sticks to it, you may remove the cake from the oven.
- 5). Allow the shaped cake to cool for at least 10 minutes. Flip the cake shaper pan upside down using a cooling rack to hold the top of the cake and allow the shaped cake to gently fall from the pan onto the rack. Allow the cake to cool for 20 to 30 minutes once you have removed it from the shaped pan. The cake must reach room temperature to ensure the cake doesn't break apart during the decorating process.
- 6). Decorate your cake according the theme of your shaped cake. Apply a base layer of icing to the surface of your cake using a spatula. Use disposable decorating bags and various tips to carefully decorate details on your cake.
