How to Make Wire Art

    • 1). Decide what type of wire you would like to use for your sculpture. Using simple farm baling wire is a good start, or you can use chicken wire. Before you begin, put gloves on. Determine the approximate height and width of your sculpture. If this is your fist time experimenting with wire art, start small so you can get the feel for the wire.

    • 2). Begin with taking one piece of wire and twisting it into itself; use your pliers for this. This will give you a small bun-like ball of wire that you can use as your base, or starting point. After you have this done, use more wire to criss-cross the original ball; this will add more width and height to your base, and you can start expanding on the shape of your sculpture.

    • 3). Wrap more wire around your base and work up and out from there. The more layers you make with the wires, the bigger your sculpture will be in width and in height; also, add more wire to the base of your sculpture as this will balance it out and make it stable. Use the wire to make your sculpture taller; build on the base and expand upward by constantly adding more wire. Use the pliers to twist and bend the wire as necessary.

    • 4). Decide how you want to mount it after you have finished making the wire sculpture. Use a rock or a flower pot to mount the wire. If you are using a rock, drill a hole in the center just wide enough for the wire; then, fit the wire base as tightly into the hole as you can. If you are using a flower pot, use cement or plaster to hold the wire sculpture.

    • 5). Use spray paint of your preferred color and spray the wire for an artistic look. Add rocks or pebbles to the rock or flower pot to accessorize the wire sculpture and give it a natural look.
