Artifact Deck Ideas
- While decks in “Magic the Gathering” can be based on one of the game's color or mana types, there are cards known as Artifacts that require no specific mana color to summon. These Artifacts range from those that can give you boosts in life to Artifact Creatures that participate in battle in the same way as other creatures.
- While a deck of straight Artifact cards can prevent damage and mess up your opponent's ability to summon creatures and spells, your own ability to deal damage is hampered. Add Artifact Creatures into your deck to create your own damage-dealing army. Use powerful creatures such as Draco, a 9/9 flying Artifact Creature with a summon cost of 16, as well as lesser Artifact creatures such as Tek, a 2/2 creature that gains abilities based on the lands you control. Use these creatures as you would any other creatures in a colored deck.
- Select one or two other colors to add into your otherwise colorless Artifact deck. For example, create an Artifact deck that also includes red cards for direct damage potential and white cards for healing potential. This can also help keep Artifacts in play, such as using the red Trash For Treasure spell which sacrifices one Artifact to bring another back from your graveyard. The blue Copy Artifact spell creates an exact duplicate of an artifact, which is especially helpful when you have artifact creatures in play.
- The abundance of Golem Artifact Creatures means you can create a deck solely with these creatures. Add Bosh, Iron Golem for his trample ability, Sand Golem which can be summoned into play if you are forced to discard him from your hand, Junk Golem with the ability to add +1/+1 counters after discarding a card, and Cobalt Golem, who can be granted flying by tapping an island and any other mana source. Your Golem deck is about dealing hard and fast damage with multiple creatures at once.
- Create an Artifact deck that focuses on combos meant to wipe out your opponent. For example, have the Lich spell card, which reduces your life points to zero while Lich keeps you alive. Activate the Mirror Universe Artifact to swap life points with your opponent, meaning an instant win. For another combo, use the Mirari Artifact to clone a Seething Song spell, adding an unlimited amount of Mountain mana to your pool which can be transferred into a Fireball spell to take out your opponent.
- Regardless of the Artifact deck you create, use multiple lands to fill out your mana pool. Keeping only one mana color can mean destruction if your opponent specializes in that color or can destroy lands of your color type. Many Artifacts can also gain bonuses for having different mana colors, such as green mana, which gives Malachite Golem trample.
