Does Minoxidil Work On Receding Hairlines?

One of the most effective, and only one of two proven and approved hair loss 'drugs' is Minoxidil, better known by it's original brand name Rogaine. Not even the makers of Rogaine fully understand what makes Minoxidil work, and it's discovery as a way to re-grow and maintain hair was by accident. Nevertheless, it's been here for years and millions of men worldwide make use of it on their thinning locks. Men suffer from different types of balding patterns, from the crown only to diffuse thinning all across the top of the head, to a receding hairline and even a combination of all 3. Minoxidil has been officially proven to work on the crown, but not on the frontal areas of the head, yet some people do grow a nice amount of hair back on the front. How can this be?

When Rogaine achieved it's approval as a hair loss product, it's clinical trials only tested it on the crown, not on the hairline. This means the makers of Rogaine cannot claim that it works on the hairline, though many users have proven that it does through real world experience. That's the good news.

The bad news is it doesn't usually work as good on the hairline.

For whatever reason, a receding hairline tends to be much tougher to restore with treatments like Propecia and Minoxidil than the crown, so for most people these drugs will only have a very limited impact on the hairline. For others, however, incredible results are achieved: There simply is no way to determine how well you will respond other than to try it and see.

So, yes, Minoxidil can work on the hairline - as can Propecia - it's just they aren't usually hugely effective in this area for most people. Maybe you'll be lucky?
