    Preparing and Filing

    • 1). Download or purchase a Satisfaction of Judgment form, or create one on your own. Free forms are available over the Internet on state court websites and on legal self-help websites. You can purchase a form at a legal stationery store or other stores that sell legal forms. You can also type and print your own satisfaction of judgment form by copying it from the court's website.

    • 2). Review the documents from the court proceeding where you were awarded the judgment. Include basic information, like the name of the court, the names of the parties, and the case number when you fill out the Satisfaction of Judgment form.

    • 3). Complete all areas on the Satisfaction of Judgment form, but don't sign it yet. Fill out the name of the court and the name of the parties and the case number. Specify whether this is a partial satisfaction of judgment, where the judgment debtor still owes you money, or a full satisfaction of judgment, where you were paid in full.

    • 4). Sign the Satisfaction of Judgment in the presence of a notary public. The notary public must witness your signing of the form or the form will be considered invalid. You can find a notary public in any title insurance office where real estate deals are closed or at a bank, law firm or insurance company. Make an extra copy of the form after you sign it and the notary public has notarized your signature.

    • 5). Take the original Satisfaction of Judgment form to the clerk's office at the courthouse where you obtained the judgment against the judgment creditor. Give the form to the court clerk. The clerk will stamp the date and time of filing on the form and enter it into the judgment records so the judgment debtor will get credit for having paid you. Keep the extra copy of the satisfaction of judgment for your records.
