How to Keep Sink Drains From Stinking
- 1). Sprinkle 1 cup of baking soda down your sink drain. Leave the baking soda to sit in the drain for 30 minutes as it deodorizes the drain and absorbs odors.
- 2). Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the drain. Allow the combination of ingredients to foam in the drain and sit for 20 minutes. The chemical reaction between the vinegar and baking soda breaks down odor-causing grease, residue and bacteria so they can be washed away.
- 3). Heat a quart of water until it's hot but not boiling. Pour the water down the drain to remove loosened grease and debris, along with the baking soda and vinegar.

Pour 1/4 cup of lemon juice down the drain every few days to once a week, depending on how often you use the sink. This will maintain the drain's freshness and help remove grease or soap scum buildup.
