Foot Blisters From a Treadmill Workout - How to Prevent Them

If you regularly jog or run on a treadmill to get your cardiovascular workout, you may suffer from foot blisters.
Foot blisters are clear, liquid-filled bubbles of skin that can appear on the foot in various places.
Before covering foot blister prevention, it is best to know what causes them.
Foot Blister Causes The most common cause of foot blisters is friction.
Your socks can rub against your foot causing uncomfortable rubbing.
In addition to friction, running shoes that are too small, or tied tightly can cause blisters.
Moisture can also cause blisters such as sweat.
Foot Blister Prevention In order to make sure that you are doing your best to prevent foot blisters, ensure that your running shoes fit properly.
Buy shoes that are used only for your treadmill workout.
They should be a ½ size bigger than your other shoes, and give plenty of room for your toes.
Purchase socks that are specifically made for running.
These special socks are made out synthetic fabrics with no seams as opposed to cotton, and they keep your feet dry and don't bunch up.
Double-layer socks are another option because the friction is between the two layers of material and not your foot and sock.
Some are aware of spots on their feet prone to blisters, and cover those areas with moleskin or athletic tape.
If you know your "hot spots", make sure that the moleskin or tape is applied smoothly without being tight.
You can purchase lubricants specifically aimed at preventing blisters.
They come in a stick form like deodorant, and can be applied directly to the feet.
Treatment If preventative measures didn't work, and you have a blister, try to leave it alone.
It will eventually pop and drain on its own.
If the blister is unbearably painful, you can sanitize a needle in boiling water for 5 minutes.
Once the needle has cooled down, gently pierce the blister, and push the liquid out.
Cover the area with antiseptic cream and moleskin or a Band-Aid.
Blisters are a common aliment for runners, and at times they can be very painful and even become infected.
Take the measures to protect your feet, and if you still end up getting a blister, it is important to care for it properly as it might get infected.
If you don't, you may end up having to take a break from working out on your treadmill.
