If you have a slow computer you have 3 options: either buy a new computer, reformat your computer or perform regular maintenance tasks on your computer to keep it running in its best shape.
See, your computer's operating system is designed to work as flawlessly as possible but it will slow down the more that you use it.
The reason for this is simple - the more that you use your computer the most junk that starts to build up in certain areas of your operating system.
The solution is pretty simple - just remove the junk and your computer will start to run smoothly again.
The problem is that you need to first find out where all of the junk is located and you need to secondly find a method to delete it.
There are to many areas and procedures for me to show you here in this one article so I'm just going to show you one of them, how to clean your computers temporary files.
Your computer uses a type of memory called RAM as temporary working place.
When it needs to open files and work with them it uses RAM to do so, but sometimes the files or programs that are running in RAM also needs a temporary space to work with.
This new temporary space is located on your hard drive and is called a Temp folder (short for temporary).
When the programs and files are done working in the Temp folder Windows will then delete everything in the folder and then go about its business.
The only problem is when your computer crashes, freezes or you manually end a program all of the data that was the Temp folder is still in there because Windows never had the opportunity to go in and delete it.
To make your computer run a bit faster, you can just go in there and manually delete it yourself.
Here's how: If you are using Windows XP, close all running files and programs and then click Start, click on Run and type %Temp% in the box and hit enter.
Now you're going to get a window that will show you the contents of the Temp folder.
Just delete everything that you can in that folder.
If for some reason it says that you cannot delete a certain file, just skip it and move onto the next one.
For those of you using Windows Vista, close all running programs and files and click Start, type Run in the start menu search box.
When the Run window comes up type %Temp% and hit enter.
Now delete everything that you see in that folder.
If there are some files that you cannot delete, then just ignore them and move onto the next one.
By doing this you are going to make your computer have less internal errors which will make it run faster and you will free up some hard drive space which will make your hard drive run a bit quicker since it has less files to manage now.
