How to Select Saw Blades
- 1). Attach a coarse-toothed blade to your saw to cut wood, such as framing lumber.
- 2). Attach a fine-toothed blade to your saw to cut finish-grade wood, such as laminated plywood, cabinet stock and valuable hardwoods. Also, use the fine-toothed saw blade to cut through plastic.
- 3). Attach an abrasive cutting blade to your saw to cut metal and masonry materials. Attach a diamond-coated, abrasive blade to your saw to cut through tile and stone.
- 1). Use reciprocal saw blades to perform cutting for demolition, such as slicing through framing members and pipes contained within a wall cavity. Attach a toothed reciprocal saw blade to cut through wood materials, such as framing lumber, and plastics. Attach an abrasive reciprocal saw blade to cut through metal or masonry materials.
- 2). Use circular saw blades or cutting discs to perform cutting across flat surfaces during both building and demolition. Create crosscuts and rip cuts through thick materials with a circular saw blade or cutting disc.
- 3). Use jigsaw or band-saw blades to create curvilinear cuts or thin-kerf cuts, such as scroll work, circles and decorative carvings.
