How to Troubleshoot Problems with a Whirlpool Washer
- 1). Make sure the Whirlpool washer is plugged in to an electrical outlet if it is not working at all. Reset the circuit breaker if needed, and do not plug the washer into an extension cord for power. Open and shut the washer door firmly and make sure a cycle has been chosen and "Start" has been selected.
- 2). Balance the load inside the washer if the washer is not draining or spinning as expected. Do not wash too many or too few items and use "high efficiency" laundry detergent in high-efficiency Whirlpool washers. Do not select "Delicate," "Hand Wash," "Low" or "No Spin" cycles if water remains in the tub.
- 3). Examine the drain hose or water inlet hoses if water is not draining or filling the washer. Straighten out any kinks in the hose and clean the hose of potential obstructions. Avoid raising the end of the drain pipe more than 96 inches off the floor, as this may cause water to flow back into the tub.
- 4). Close the washer lid or door and wait at least 1 minute for the washer to begin filling with water or spinning if it does not seem to be filling up with water or agitating as expected. The washer lid/door must be closed in order for the washer to begin operating. Verify that both the hot and cold water valves are turned on completely, and clean the inlet valve screens.
- 5). Examine all hose and valve connections on the washer if there is leaking. The connections should be tight to prevent leaking. Secure the drain hose to a drainpipe or laundry tub and check the household drain for possible obstructions as well.
- 6). Press "Stop/Cancel" if the washer displays an error code on the display. Turn the power off, and wait a minute before turning the washer on. Select a new wash cycle, and push "Start." Unplug the washer to reset it if this does not resolve the error code. Wait a few minutes before restoring power.
- 7). Contact a Whirlpool service center for assistance if the above methods do not resolve the situation.
