Halloween is a great time to get dressed up and make yourself look like you never usually can. Scary? Sexy? Devilish? Whatever look you want to achieve, much of it can be achieved with some fairly simple makeup tips. Here are some Halloween makeup ideas that you can try.

The Eyes

Even in the absence of an overall theme, you can achieve a great look simply by working on your eyes. In general, Halloween eyes are dark, using lots of eye shadow and often sport a "dripping" look.

All that you need is eyeliner, mascara and eye shadow. The best shades to use are metallic and white ones. You can experiment with the occasional bit of lipstick to help achieve a bruised or bloody look where you might want it.

Cat Makeup

The most important thing here is to achieve the "cat's eyes" look. Most of this is done by simply extending your eyeliner upwards and outwards. False lashes can also really help you with this look.

These are the basics but there are a number of variations that you can try. YouTube has a lot of great videos on achieving this very popular look.

Devil Makeup

There are many ways to achieve this look which tends to be more popular with men.

In general, you want to use red face paint and apply it to the entire face. For a really authentic look, you can purchase some yellow contact lenses and wear those for the night.

One particularly popular devil look in recent years is the "Darth Maul" look. Whether you want to look like Darth Maul or a regular devil, you will also want to sport a couple of horns as these are the true sign of the devil, regardless of what other efforts you have made to your appearance. You can buy these from party and fancy dress stores and they stick on easily using sprit gum which has long been used for theatrical prosthetics.

Zombie Makeup

The good thing about dressing up as a zombie is that this is a very easy to achieve look and it definitely does not need to look "perfect" in any way.

Zombies have dull and mottled skin and this is easily achieved using a small multicolour kit available at most party or fancy dress stores. You can also apply dark shadow under the eyes to achieve the sunken eyes look.

If you want to go crazy and achieve the look of open wounds then you should use a combination of liquid latex and a tube of fake blood.
