Two Heartburn Remedies That Work Every Time

Heartburn remedies don't have to cost you very much money, and certainly shouldn't require a visit to the doctor.
Because there are simple natural things -- old remedies -- that people have used with great effect for many years.
They are virtually free and you may even have them in your home right now.
Let me give you two of them, first, and then explain why they seem to be so effective.
One simple heartburn remedy is the bark of slippery elm.
If you live on the Eastern shoreline of the US you will be familiar with this native tree.
What you may not know is that until the 1960s it was a widely accepted, and much-used drug store remedy for sore throats.
So it helped some types of heartburn (for reasons I will explain in a minute).
You can make a concoction of slippery elm from the gel-like gum that you'll find in the inside of the elm bark.
Mixed with some water, this gum swells up and you can safely drink it.
(Although I'm not sure if you can do that when you're pregnant.
If you are expecting, do some research on this.
) You can also buy remedies for sore throats that are based on slippery elm in health food or drug stores today.
So check the labels.
You might have some of them in your cupboard right now.
Use this gum.
It definitely works.
The other simple cure for heartburn I recommend is marshmallow.
Again, this natural plant may grow near you and its possible you've already seen the gum that exudes from it the stem.
Mix that with some water and you have a substance that is natural and which soothes the lining of the esophagus as it descends into the stomach.
This affects the reflux which causes heartburn (as I will explain in a minute) and so it has been a popular, home remedy for many generations.
You can also dry the marshmallow roots and use them in tea.
Drug stores will sell this to you, and many people find that three or four cups of this tea, steeped for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, helps their heartburn.
Just one word of caution.
This can lower blood sugar levels, so you will need to talk with your doctor if you want to use marshmallow to help your heartburn.
But if he gives you the "all clear" you will have a simple, natural, well-tested cure available to you.
So, why is it that so many people find these natural remedies effective with heartburn? It's because a common form of heartburn involves the reflux I mentioned above.
Food and acid in the stomach is meant to stay there.
But for something like 20 percent of people this sometimes escapes back up the esophagus for a short distance and the stinging of the acid on the lining of the passage is painful; and we call it "heartburn".
The chest pain we feel in the night as we try to sleep, or the sour taste that is so common in our mouths, the coughing and sore throats -- all these are frequently caused by reflux.
And that's why these two simple heartburn remedies are so widely used.
Try them and see if they help you.
