In a little over three years, Poptropica has become one of the largest virtual websites for pre-teens, averaging 8 million to 10 million unique visitors monthly. Kinney's boss, Jess Brallier, said Kinney's work on the "Wimpy Kid" books and Poptropica may look easy but Kinney does things over and over until they're just right. Kinney is creative director and executive producer of Poptropica, and he works on every aspect of the site, from creating the islands to making sure the chat with historic characters is preprogrammed so kids have no real contact with anyone else using the site.
The Heffleys strike back: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, based on the second book in Jeff Kinney's bestselling middle-grade series, lands in theaters March 25. The first film, which Fox 2000 released in March 2010, has grossed more than $75 million worldwide (on a production budget of just $15 million).
