A Review of Gone Girl By Gillian Flynn
One of the best selling books in 2012, Gone Girl; tells an intriguing story of deceit and manipulation.
The main characters in the book, Amy and Nick, met each other five years ago, in 2005, they fell in love and decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
One phrase before I continue, "If you love great stories" then this is the real deal, at least for me.
They are having a blissful marriage and then the male Character, Nick, losses his job.
The same plight befalls Amy as she looses her job as well and her money.
At some point things begin to get a little shaky between them.
They decide to move to Nicks' hometown to take care of his parents.
The first part of the book opens with the sudden disappearance of Amy on the day of their fifth wedding anniversary, she used to be brilliant, very supportive and attentive while Nick has been hateful, resentful and abusive, or so we are made to believe, since he lost his job.
Questions begin to arise as to how blissful the union really was and police investigations on the disappearance of Amy yields evidence that point towards Nick as the killer.
Was she really dead? Her body has not been found, and if she was dead, is Nick responsible for it? He claims he is innocent as he gives his narrative but the entries in Amy's diary paints an entirely different picture.
The Story is not without twists as Gillian Flynn beautifully leaves readers on the edge and just when you think you finally figured how things would turn, you come face to face with the unexpected.
Just as I found; all we thought we knew about the characters, Nick and Amy, winds up been mere fabrications, they have been living together for years but never really knew each other and their true capabilities.
Turns out Nick has been having extramarital affairs with a younger female and Amy knew about it.
I am trying not to expose too much of the plot here, so I will leave you to your imaginations and hope your curiosity gets the best of you.
How did she respond? What really is the truth? All of these you could answer if you took your time to go through the almost five hundred pages of this Captivating fiction novel.
Before you do however, I will like to warn that the book does contain coarse language, lots of it, explicit content and some violence.
That said; I consider Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn a masterpiece, it talks of some of the common problems couples face, handling finances, relatives etc and may cause you to ponder just how well you do know your spouse.
If I am to rate the book it will get four stars of five.
