How to Make a Suggestion Box for a Church

    • 1). Buy a colorful file storage box with a removable lid. File storage boxes are ideal for suggestion boxes because they have a lid that you can remove easily. Also, the holes on the sides of the boxes--precut for your hands--make perfect slots in which to slip suggestion cards. Try to find at least a 15- by 12- by 10-inch file storage box at an office-supply store or a business that sells storage containers, such as The Container Store.

    • 2). Create a sign for the storage box by typing instructions on a word processing document. For example, your sign might read something like "SUGGESTION BOX: Help make First Baptist a better place. Write your suggestions on the white cards and drop your card in the slots on the side of this box." Make sure your document is set up on a "landscape" or horizontal view. Print the sign and tape it to one of the box sides.

    • 3). Place the suggestion box in a prominent place in the church that has heavy foot traffic. You want people to take advantage of the suggestion box, so make sure parishioners see it. Place it by one of the main doors or on a table that also has brochures and materials that parishioners might need. Place the index cards and a container of pens beside the box. If you are a church staff member, communicate news about the suggestion box. Introduce it from the pulpit and in your newsletter.
