Intraventricular Tumors
This issue of Neurosurgical Focus is dedicated to the surgical treatment of intraventricular tumors. This subject is pertinent because the majority of tumors that arise from within the ventricular system are benign or low grade and surgery is the most appropriate method of treatment.

Intraventricluar tumors present a unique challenge. In terms of the most efficient and safe method of accessing these tumors, their location poses significant problems. Two separate articles are devoted to transcallosal surgery and transcor-tical incisions as the most common options for intraventricular surgery.

Because a wide range of tumor types can arise from within the ventricles, a discussion regarding the appropriate use of diagnostic neuroimaging, interpretation of its findings, and its impact on the differential diagnosis is also included.

Intraventricular tumors are rare in children who do not have tuberous sclerosis, and there are few recent reports that provide a thorough review of this subject. This issue includes a comprehensive report on the specific issues that must be addressed when treating these lesions in children.

Finally, some unusual cases are added to demonstrate the range of pathological entities and the utilization of technology to improve surgery-related outcome.

In most general neurosurgical practices intraventricular tumors are rare. Inattention to specific details or lack of experi-ence with this type of surgery can lead to inadvertent morbidity. It is hoped that the readers will find this issue of Neurosurgical Focus useful when examining the next patient who presents with an intraventricular lesion. I want to thank each of the authors of the papers in this issue for their contributions.
