Ideas for a Survivor Theme
- "Survivor," the television show, is easily identifiable by its exotic settings and competitive game playing. Immerse your guests in the spirit of this unique reality game by using Survivor-themed decorations and ideas. Your group or groups will make new bonds and strong alliances as they enjoy the scenery and participate in the activities.
- The party starts with the invitation. Send your guests Survivor-style invitations. Use a black permanent marker and some parchment paper to make scroll-style invitations. Invite guests to come to your Survivor party for a taping of a local episode. Tell them what to wear, like like cool clothing and comfortable shoes. Give the guests special permission to bring a few items with them, like a bottle of water and some bug spray. On your invitations, ask if they want to participate or just watch. When the guests arrive, divide the active participants into two tribes and have the crowd that is just watching be your production team. Roll up the invitations scroll-style and tie them with leather string. Hand deliver the invitations or mail them in tube mailers.
- For decorations, visit a party supply store and stock up on Tiki theme items. Grass skirting goes great around food tables. Tiki torches are perfect for evening events. You can even buy grass thatching to place on an outdoor tent. Use two outdoor tents to provide "shelter" for the two competing teams. Add silk vine greenery to tables and anywhere there are poles or furniture. Give flower leis to competitors and use silk flowers to decorate your game playing areas. You will need two flags to represent the two tribes; use them as part of your decorating scheme. Add a couple of homemade idols and some Tiki totems for an authentic Survivor look.
- In keeping with the spirit of the actual game, you should provide some competitive games for players to participate in. Keep score of which team wins the most competitions. After each competition, let the losing team vote someone out of the tribe. Alternatively, give them the option to trade a player with the other team.
Play the game "Hidden Treasure." Hide two treasure chests and two keys in the yard before the event. Give each team a map, some clues and a shovel to find their chests and the keys. Hide the keys and chests in separate locations. The teams have to find the hidden keys to open the chests. Have food prizes or items in the chest that the winning team can use as a reward. The first team to bring the chest and the key to the game table and open it wins the challenge.
Use a croquet set for the "Blind Man" challenge. Players have to navigate a croquet ball through an obstacle course. The trick is they have to navigate the course blindfolded. The tribal chief can shout out instructions to each team member.
