Tips to creating a bed time routine for your child

If you're like most parents of young children, you've become an accustomed to a lack of sleep. You'd think that after making it through the infant stage with great results, the early child years would naturally mean that now everyone in the house will get more sleep. Unfortunately, once a child becomes good at manipulation they discover ways to steer clear of bedtime.

Young kids need good rest just as much as their parents; it's vital to their health and makes them nicer to be around! When little kids are sleepy they become cranky and make being around them a miserable experience. What is a parent to do when their little darling becomes a total monster when night time rolls around?

There are some tips that you can use to help make bedtime less difficult. Starting a regular bedtime regimen is one of the first steps parents can take to get kids to sleep at night.

Always remember to be constant. Whatever routine you start for your child at bedtime, make sure the routine is the same every night. Children like to know what to expect, and having a regular bedtime routine will help get them in the right mood for sleeping.

Make bath time a regular part of your child's before bed routine. Warm baths are calming and help to not only make them feel good and clean, but settled and ready for a peaceful night's sleep.

Most parents make story-time a part of their child's bed-time routine, and for good reason, the bonding is wonderful for mother or father and child, your child is calming down and snuggled down into their bed. And that makes it a good experience for the child and parent and helps reinforce to the child that sleeping in their own bed can be fun.

Another way to help your child settle down and get ready for bed is to have soft soothing music playing in your child's room.

Generate a chart to monitor your child's bedtime progress and reward his good results with reward stickers.

Whatever strategies or tips you choose for starting a bedtime routine for your child, always end the routine with your child in his own bed. He will know what's to be expected and will soon be sleeping through the night peacefully and calmly.
