The US Classic is the last qualifier to US nationals (called the P&G Championships in 2014). To qualify to nationals, seniors had to score at least a 54.000 in the all-around; have a three-event total of 41.250; or earn a total of 28.000 on two events. Simone Biles, the 2013 world all-around champion, bested the field by a monstrous 1.650 at the 2014 US Classic, over Kyla Ross, the silver medalist at last year's worlds.
Placing third was the consistent and steadily-improving Maggie Nichols, and in fourth was Rachel Gowey, a gymnast from Chow's (former home of both Gabby Douglas and Shawn Johnson). Gowey burst onto the scene this year, and looks to have huge potential for the future.

What makes a gymnast a "senior"?
Any gymnast who will turn 16 or older during the calendar year. These age restrictions are set by the FIG, the federal governing body for the sport, and are one of the biggest controversies in gymnastics. Senior gymnasts are eligible for major international competitions such as worlds and the Olympics.
