Comparing Online Resources for Watching Movies
A gross understatement would be, €internet has changed the world€¦€ duh, of course it has. From communication to shopping, travel, entertainment, and literally thousands of other avenues of our lives are forever changed by copper wires sending billions of gigabytes worth of information across the world. With the changing technology new laws have had to be made in order to adapt to the changing media environment which has given birth to increasing venues for people to view their favorite television shows or movies. The big three that this article will be Netflix, Hulu, and HBOgo.
Netflix
The company that redefined what it means to rent movies branched out to streaming videos around 2008. The service was limited at first, with the amount of time you could stream a month being related to how much you paid per month. So a customer paying $10 a month would have ten hours of streaming time on Netflix's Watch Instantly service. After Netflix let any customer stream unlimited amounts of video there was gigantic demand for Watch Instantly which Netflix addressed by charging for their video rental and Watch Instantly services separately.
As it stands, Netflix Watch Instantly is a very good service for $9.99 a month. While the selection is much more limited than their DVD collection, there is still a wide variety of movies that can be accessed with an internet connection. Even better than the movies, are the wide selection of shows that you can access from Netflix which is much more economical than renting one disc at a time or buying seasons.
Hulu
The streaming video site features many, many clips of popular television shows along with full episodes and some movies. When compared to Netflix, they may offer a wider range of shows but they only give a few episodes per season for free, and then you must pay for a Hulu+ account. The movie selection is not that great and mainly features older films, but Hulu's show selection is much broader than Netflix's - especially if you are watching current shows since Hulu hosts the new shows the same night or the next day that they are aired.
HBOgo
Almost every subscription channel like HBO, Showtime, or Cinemax has an online service that their customers can use to access their entire library of shows and movies currently on the schedule. The shows are typically very good, but limited to the channels figureheads. The movies are nice for someone who does not need a lot of choice and they will change slowly like a rotating library. If the latest Tom Hanks movie has just been released to DVD then one of these subscribed channels will probably be the first places to pick it up rather than the traditional movie rental stores.
These are some of the biggest and safest sites on which to watch new shows and movie
with your favorite actors. The €free€ sites are often illegal and can be a great way to get malware and viruses. You get what you pay for, and these sites provide the best bang for your buck.
