How to Edit a Song to Take Out Cursing
- 1). Download and install an audio-editing program, such as Audacity, WavePad by NCH Software or Solveig Multimedia's Windows Media Player (WMP) Trimmer Plugin. Many programs offer a free version.
- 2). Rip the track you want to edit to your system using Windows Media Player or a similar program if the song is on CD. If it is stored as a digital file, find it in "My Music" or the folder you selected as the destination for downloaded files.
- 3). Open the audio-editing program. Click the "File" tab. Click on the option to open or import files. Select your file. Click "OK" to import it to the editing program. You can also use the file menu in the program's main window, if your program offers that feature, to begin the import process.
- 4). Play the audio file and watch the timeline to note the points at which the cursing appears. Use the timeline to create a start and stop point for your edit, to remove a single word or an entire line of the song.
- 5). Isolate the section to be edited out by dragging the cursor between your start and stop points or by creating markers at those points, depending on the method used by your program. Click the "Cut" or "Delete" button to remove that section. Re-combine the two remaining sections into a single file. Repeat the editing process for any other words or lines you want to remove. Save the file when finished.
