• One of the first of this type of game, "Virtual Villagers" certainly sets the bar for others. You assign villagers to tasks, make them learn useful abilities and have them explore the island. Virtual Villagers 2: The Lost Children

• This sequel to "Virtual Villagers" picks up where the first game left off. Two of your villagers decide to explore a new beach, and find a group of dirty and hungry children trying to survive. Game play works the same way in this game, in that you teach your villagers to survive, solve mysteries, and let them live and thrive. A worthy sequel, much like the first.
  
  

Totem Tribe

• Less resource management game and more mystery to solve, "Totem Tribe" solves the problem of people who thought the original villager sim games didn't have enough puzzle element. There is some building and skill learning, but there are also more than 20 islands to explore, miniquests, magic relics, missions and surprises. A great combination of many genres, all in one.
