A masters in business administration (MBA) is considered to be a key ingredient in making your way to professional success in India. With an executive education diploma from a top university abroad or the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) or the Indian School of Business (ISB), professionals can be assured that they will have an excellent pay and benefit package along with a successful career.

MBA students are now being offered top positions at global companies, including senior management roles. Companies include: Boston Consulting Group, Google, IBM, McKinsey and Company, Accenture, Royal Bank of Scotland, and A T Kearney Ltd. In 2011, graduates were offered jobs with a salary package that was increased by 11%.

A survey carried out by BusinessWorld showed that there has been an increase in the number of jobs and salary packages being offered to MBA graduates from top executive education institutes. The study also showed that although the recession was slowing the economy, the number of MBA students was rising.

The value of an MBA was further emphasised by associate vice president of Technopak Advisors, Purnendu Kumar He says, "The MBA is viewed as a passport to success in the corporate world in India."  Hundreds of thousands of prospective students apply to top universities hoping to gain admission. However, with such strong competition, top Indian universities have strict admission rules and procedures allowing less than 50% of applicants to proceed to the second round.

On the flip side, India's booming economy has a high demand for MBA graduates. Companies are increasingly looking to find top skilled candidates for managerial positions. According to Headhunters India, large corporations do not want to compromise the quality of their talent which is why a lot of them turn to top class universities for recruitment.

Ariff Kachra, a strategy professor explains that recruitment in India is very different to North America. Since India is developing at a much faster pace, HR must ensure that candidates are capable of adapting and quickly growing into a certain role. Having a MBA from a top school demonstrates ambition and the ability to succeed making them more likely to be hired.

With the Indian government slowly allowing foreign universities to enter the higher education platform in India, the number of seats available at top Indian universities will slowly increase. With more foreign institutions offering MBAs, prospective students will have a larger variety of universities to choose from.
