Wheatgrass symbolizes the arrival of spring. As a centerpiece, wheatgrass provides a natural, living plant that gives a bright focus to the table for both formal and fun occasions. Wheatgrass can be grown in any shape container as long as that container can hold a couple of inches of soil. After the occasion, wheatgrass can be transplanted to your garden. - Floral arrangements using containers of wheatgrass can work for almost any occasion. The arrangement can match the formality of the event through the selection of containers or choice of flowers. All flower stems need to be slightly longer than the length of the wheatgrass. Cut flowers can simply be added into the grass or placed in small holes in the soil that were created by a pencil or other small object. Simple containers can be enhanced by wrapping ribbon or ivy around the base.
- You can promote tranquility at the table by creating Zen gardens, which typically combine rocks and sand with a type of grass. The growing container for this approach requires an area for the soil bed and a rim wide enough for decorative items. Charger-type plates work well, but other options can be found at home decor stores or websites. The wheatgrass can be grown to the desired height and accompanied by polished stones, crystals or other natural elements. The combination of natural elements is likely to have a calming effect on everyone at the table.
- For a kids' farm-theme birthday party or a farmer's association event, a fenced-in meadow offers a twist on the centerpiece concept. To pull off the effect, the wheatgrass should be in a rectangular pot about half the length of the table it is to be placed on. The grass should be a couple of inches high before placing one-inch high plastic fence along the edge of the container. These fences are available at most craft stores. Try adding small barns, tractors and farm animals can be placed throughout the grass to make it look like a farm. Check the toy aisle of local superstores to find these items.
