Where Are You When It Comes To Fashion And Style?
Many women face this question at some point in their lives. It's often a difficult place to evaluate, as well accept. Our fashion tastes change so frequently with the changes in our lives. Young women, who were once all about fashion, quickly come to a place of comfort when pregnant with their children. Maturing women have to come to grips with the fact that they can't quite pull off the same styles as they did in their youth.
What I've discovered in my thirties is that my style varies from day to day. The overwhelming theme is comfort, however. With two adolescents who are constantly on the go, a busy photography career, and my own personal pleasures like shopping, I'm much more interested in functional comfort than I am in keeping up with current style. So what does that look like? I'm a heavier woman, but petite as well, so finding styles that fit well are just as big a problem as finding ones that I feel compliment me. My favorite go-to's are by far yoga pants, scrubs, and comfortable button down shirts. For casual, day to day kind of stuff, I'm much more of a tee shirt and blue jeans kind of woman. Paired up with a comfortable pair of sneakers, I'm ready to take on the day. Bumming around the house, my typical uniform is yoga pants and a comfortable shirt. This can take me from morning walks to running kids to school, to doing loads and loads of laundry. Work wear is much more business casual; khaki's or dark jeans paired up with a sleek, fitted button down takes me from my office to a clients office, and all the business lunches in between.
For date night, I put a little more effort into my appearance. An elongating pant, with a nice shirt and a pair of heels usually rounds out my outfit nicely. A favorite outfit of my husband's is a pair of simple jeans with a white button down shirt. In the winter time, I add a blazer or a sweater and a pair of high heeled boots and viola, perfect. The few times we go out somewhere really nice, I like a solid, classically structured dress. The famous "little black dress" describes my style well. Though some of my more elegant dresses certainly don't subscribe to that particular style, they compliment my figure and my personality well. Black is the preferred color, but I've been known to wear red, wickedly and wildly!
Sleepwear is as basic as it gets. Pajama pants are in style for women these days and I've even seen them sporting at the grocery store. I prefer scrubs for sleeping however. The crisp feeling of the cotton material is cool on hot nights, and still comfortable on cooler nights.
Every woman's style is different, and finding what works for you is often the first step in developing your own personal style.
