    • 1). Go to a search engine such as google.com, or yahoo.com or bing.com. These are the most popular search engines and web portals on the Internet.

    • 2). For general searches use keywords such as "skin disorder," "skin disorder causes," "skin problems," "skin issues," or "skin care" (all without quotes). These will all bring up search results related to skin disorders. If you want a specific phrase to be in your search results then put the search keywords in quotation marks. This causes the search engine to look for a specific phrase as opposed to individual keywords. For example, if you type "toddlers dealing with eczema" with quotation marks, your results will include web pages that contain that phrase. If you do not include the quotation marks, the search engine will search for web pages that contain the words, "toddlers," "dealing" and "eczema" separately because "with" is too common to be a valid keyword for searching. Your results will not be specific to your query and too numerous for convenient researching.

    • 3). Sift through the first five pages of search results. Usually the top searches will be within the first page. For generic searches, after the first page, the majority of the results you'll see have nothing to do with top for which you searched. It is possible to have accurate results buried deep in a results set, but the average user does not have the patience to sift through more than about five, or maybe ten pages of results.

    • 4). Go to specific web portals dealing with medicine. Three sites in particular to look through are CNN Health's channel, WebMD.com and Healthline.com. Also, consider Skinsight's Skin Condition Finder, which allows you to search by body, location, age and gender. These websites deal specifically with medical issues. Through blogs, articles and user insight available through these various website communities, you can find information about diseases and conditions that a general search may not retrieve. These medical web portals also have search engines that you can use to search skin disorders and their causes. The search results that come back from searching these sites will be tailored closer to medical documentation than global results.
