Greenhouse Staging

Choosing the perfect greenhouse is not the end of your search. To support all the lovely plants youll soon be putting inside, you need the right type of greenhouse staging, sometimes called benching. These specialised greenhouse shelves come in many materials and designs, so you can find just about anything you need for your garden.

Gabriel Ash offers a wide selection of staging options, each one unique in its own way. First, be aware that greenhouse staging typically comes either slatted or tray.

Slatted staging is, as its name suggests, composed of wooden slats on a shelf frame. Gardeners favour slatted staging because the spaces between slats provide an excellent ventilation system. Certain plant diseases are due to too much moisture and not enough air circulation, so slatted staging solves this problem. Air circulation also strengthens the root of a plant. Slatted greenhouse staging tends to be the standard choice for most types of greenhouse gardening.

Tray staging is also self-descriptive; this is a shallow aluminum tray in place of slats. To provide the best atmosphere for growing plants, this 1- deep tray is filled with pea gravel, silver sand, or a similar substance.

Staging designs vary slightly. A popular and versatile option is the trestle design, which because of its dark wood lends a rustic aspect to any room. A good staging bench will be made of cedar wood, as most benches from Gabriel Ash are. The trestle is usually somewhat less expensive than other options and its attractiveness makes it a great choice for working or display.

Most other models feature a slatted upper bench and a slatted lower bench to provide maximum storage and workspace. Slats also ensure that when plants are watered, they can drain easily right through both benches. Although more expensive than the trestle design, these are freestanding and come in several sizes so that you can mix and match. Double-benches allow your greenhouse interior to be customised for your needs.

Greenhouse staging is usually placed on the side of your greenhouse that sees the least sun. This is done because you can install greenhouse blinds without interference from the staging. Gabriel Ash would also like to warn you that putting electrical installments close to your greenhouse staging is potentially dangerous; instead, place the installment high up and away from your shelving units so that no moisture reacts with it when your plants are watered.
