If you have asked yourself this question then I am here to tell you all about it.
What can cause it, what can fix it, and how you can get rid of it.
So you have seen the dreaded ylod, there are a few things that can actually cause this error to be displayed on your console so let me explain about the reasons behind it.
The main reason for the ylod (yellow light of death) is overheating so initially it is a good idea to turn your console off.
Wait for about an hour then switch it back on.
If the light is still being displayed check the sides of your console and see if there is any particular area that is hotter than the rest.
If there is it may be worth purchasing an external fan.
Either a laptop fan or a purpose built external fan for your PlayStation 3, this should help things keep cool.
Check that there is sufficient ventilation around the console, if the machine can't expel the hot air then it will just build up inside of it and cause the ylod.
If your console is inside an entertainment unit then you should leave the doors open whilst in use to allow proper circulation.
Also check to see if the vents are clogged up with dust or anything else.
If they are you will need to clean them with a dry cloth this will help restore the airflow to the PlayStation.
Another cause of this annoying error is if the cables are not connected properly, so just take a look and ensure all the connections are securely in place and that the cables are in good order.
It is possible that mice or something similar could have had a nibble.
Maybe they just came loose when you were moving the console to clean the vents.
The yellow light of death can also be caused by a hard drive failure.
This is most likely to happen if you have dropped your console or something similar.
All it takes is for the hard drive to be dislodged slightly and you will see that frustrating flashing light.
Taking note of these basic points should help restore your PlayStation to its former glory as the best gaming machine very quickly.
Sometimes these points may not be enough but please do not worry as there is a plethora of information available in various blogs and forums that will help to get your machine back on its feet, fast.
