Number 44 - The Obama Era Begins

The glitz, glamor, parties, and campaigns are over.
It is time to rebuild and restore our beloved Nation, the United States of America.
The mandate of the American people has spoken.
The inauguration of President Barack Hussein Obama amounted to a well needed shift in the political culture and socialization in the United States.
"Change has come to America.
" This is exactly why America is such a great Nation.
Regardless of its past and a Constitution that has its flaws, the laws and the people of the United States are an evolutionary process and one that is base upon necessity.
There is no other Nation I know that is constantly making an effort to be better like the United States of America.
And that is why I concur with former President Ronald Reagan when he said that "America will be that shining city on top of a hill.
" The peaceful transfer of power was seen by many people around the world.
Many with expectations that the United States will once more become the Nation that sets the standard by which others are judged.
Like many Americans and people around the world, I am optimistic that this Nation will prevail under the leadership of this administration.
Let intelligence, strategy, diplomacy and leadership that are based on a vision and allegiance to the United States Constitution prevail over arrogance and abuse of power.
This Nation will cease to use any cowboy mentality to resolve crisis.
Our civil liberties will not be in jeopardy no more.
It is alright to dissent in America without being labeled as unpatriotic.
The President declared in his message to the Nation that his administration will be one of transparency and accountability.
That is good for the Nation.
To encourage political participation is good for our democracy.
The American people were galvanized to elect change and to take America in this new direction.
For many African Americans and people of African ancestry throughout the world, this is a very proud moment for us.
One that many thought would never come.
Not only is this inauguration a historical one for the first duly elected African American to the Oval Office, it is the highest deficit and worst economy since the depression that any President has inherited.
Therefore, the President will have to hit the ground running and he will need the support of not only the House and Senate, but the American people at large.
It is incumbent on all of us as Americans to be inclusive and global.
This is how President Obama got to the Oval Office, the highest office in the land.
He ran as a candidate for change.
Not as a black man or white man.
Let us remember that there are many Whites, Asians, Hispanics, Indians, Native Americans, etc.
, that helped to get him to that high office.
Blacks could not get him there alone.
So let us all embrace what the President said: "We are one.
" Let us take that notion and take America in a new direction by being inclusive and not exclusive.
There will be no quick fix to this economic crisis.
It will take many years of sacrifice and hard work.
No one should expect hand outs and favors.
It is time for all of us to get moving.
Those who do not have any formal training or a profession, it is time to get matriculated in colleges and universities.
If you have a few credits left to complete a degree, go and finish it now.
If you do not have an education, go out and learn a trade.
Young black men, it is time to haul your pants up and turn your caps around.
It is time to get a hair cut instead of corn rows.
President Obama got to the Oval Office, because he sought the American dream through diligence.
He worked hard and embraced family values.
This is the best role model any African American or people of African ancestry can have.
Not one "baby mama" could show up during his campaign to derail his bid for this high office.
The man is phenomenal.
It didn't matter if he was White or Black.
He and his lovely wife Michelle demonstrated a level of class, grace, sophistication and brilliance that every American can be proud of.
So I encourage all my African American brothers and sisters to model this great American.
With this Obama era, let us put an end to calling each other the "N" word and refer to our lovely women as the "B" word.
Let us stop killing one another.
When we look at First Lady Obama, we see a lady of dignity, grace, intelligence, class and sophistication.
When we look at President Obama, we see a man of character, integrity, brilliance, etc.
Therefore, I plea to all my people, buy books over sneakers and name brand clothes, buy real properties over fancy cars, change your priorities, get an education so that when America rise you may rise with it.
Let us model noble men and women such as President Barrack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, General Colin Powell, Dr.
Martin Luther King, Dr.
Ben Carson, Oprah Winfrey, and other great Americans who are inclusive and not exclusive.
For all the pessimists out there, the best of America is yet to come.
My late honorable father came to this great Republic from Jamaica as a migrant farm worker.
When I heard the way he spoke of America back then as a boy, I knew that this Nation would be my home some day.
The country is in a recession, times are hard, but help is on the way.
The United States of America will prevail.
A new era has begun.
Congratulations to our duly elected President.
Let us all support his administration and vision for this country.
The same way we turned out in the millions for the inauguration in Washington and across this country, let us support and lobby legislation that are necessary for our children's education, healthcare, etc.
Political participation is crucial in a democracy.
It is high time we learn to call and write our Senators and Congressmen/women to support legislation that will benefit us and our children.
I had a rude awakening while I was doing my constitutional law internship at the State Assembly in Albany many years ago.
At least 2-3 million people gathered over the past few years on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York on Labor Day to celebrate West Indian carnival.
People jump and dance in the street as clowns, jankunoos, etc.
Yet we were unable to get 10 constituents to support or lobby a legislation in Albany that would have benefited their children.
I say all of that to say this, it is a new era in America, and now that the President is going to make the Oval Office transparent without jeopardizing our national security, let us participate in government and rebuild this great nation.
May God continue to bless the United States of America.
