Description:

The official video game adaptation of the 2012 Olympic Games springboards onto PC courtesy of publisher Sega and its development studio in Australia. The game, which is also available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, includes more than 35 events to compete in as you represent your choice of competing countries.

As with the "real" 2012 Olympic Games, events take place in London, England. You'll travel to Olympic Stadium, home to the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as the following authentic venues: the Velodrome, Aquatics Centre, Royal Artillery Barracks, North Greenwich Arena, Horse Guards Parade, and Lord's Cricket Ground.

Events

Each venue hosts specific events from the international competition. Featured sports include beach volleyball, rowing, table tennis, weightlifting, cycling, canoe slalom, gymnastics, diving, swimming, archery, shooting, and athletics.

Athletics, gymnastics, diving, swimming, shooting, and archery all feature multiple competitions, while the rest are single events only.

In athletics, for instance, your athletes will be able to enter the 100m, 200m, 400m, 110m hurdles, javelin throw, shot put, discus throw, high jump, long jump and triple jump. Shooting events include both the 25m rapid-fire pistol and skeet. Individual and team archery events are available, while gymnastics is limited to the trampoline and vault.

Swimming events include the 50m, 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, and 100m breaststroke. Diving events incorporate the 3m springboard, 3m synchronized springboard, 10m platform, and 10m synchronized platform.

Controls

While games inspired by the Olympics have traditionally involved rapid button-tapping to simulate running, swimming, and other strenuous motions, the controls for London 2012 aren't designed in the same manner. Certain events will have you pressing a sequence of buttons in the right order to execute moves, such as the gymnastics events, while others may involve a sense of timing and rhythm to keep your athletes from expending too much energy.

Game Types

London 2012 features four game types: Olympic Games, Events Mode, Online Mode, and Party Play. Olympic Games features all of the events in a tournament-style format as you attempt to earn gold medals, while Events Mode lets you pick and choose which types of sports to play. Online lets you track your personal medal counts on the global leaderboards as well as "national pride" points for your represented country.
