Preparing and Performing at the Callback

Start off your preparation for your callback by organizing your outfit. Never wear a different outfit to a callback, while many actors desire to spruce up their appearance by buying a new shirt for this occasion, it is best to always wear the exact same clothing you wore for the initial audition.

Gather your audition script and begin analyzing the character more. Even though at the callback the casting director may provide you with additional audition sides, if you have spent an evening analyzing the character you will be able to perform your character with more confidence.

Read over your script several times, and then begin to create the sub-context of the audition side. Since you have probably not read the entire script you will need to make assumptions about the character and their objectives. Pay attention to the interaction that your character has with the other characters in the scene. Ask yourself what your characters objective within this scene are and create a list of several action movements that will characterize these objectives.

Remember, that during your initial audition, the way you performed the scene obviously impressed the casting director. Do not stray too far from your initial performance during the callback. Instead, use your first performance as the foundation for the callback. Stay true to the main characters choices you made, but add further depth within the character.

Arriving at the callback, hand the casting director your headshot and resume and thank them for the opportunity. It is not uncommon for a casting director to provide you with further direction within the scene during a callback, so make sure that you pay attention to what he or she says.
