Training a Dog to Sleep Next to a Bed
Puppies are brought home everyday and the most common mistake of sleeping variables are letting the puppy sleep with you the first night.
This first night away from mother is the one the dog is going to remember forever.
This new habit of finding "new parents" and being nurtured really create a problem in the world of dog training.
People always comment or ask, "Hey, I let my puppy sleep with me as a young pup but now that the dog is older I don't want him/her sleeping with me anymore but she cries when we try not to sleep together so I give in.
" I'm sure it is easy to see the faulty in this statement but it is very hard to congest for some people.
Puppies and dogs are built on foundations of no change.
A lot like humans, dogs base what they want or desire on what has happened from what they know.
If they remember that first night away from their mother as you being there with them sleeping and cuddling, there going to want it forever most likely.
To cut this out and train them, you will have to start the next steps as soon as possible.
1.
Make a short leash of rope that is about 1 foot in length.
2.
Tie them next to your bed or which you sleep in and let them know that you are right next to them the whole time.
3.
Be considerate that this is hard for the dog if he is used to a different setting.
It's like telling you to sleep on the floor when you have slept in a bed for years..
it will be different.
4.
Whining may occur and be ready to just accept it.
Console your dog at first but if they just keep whining let them know that it will not change anything by doing exactly nothing.
5.
Repeat these steps over and over with patience.
Good luck and remember to make the dog excited for being a good dog cause it is what dogs are designed to do, make us happy.
