We all get into health and fitness hoping to get closer to the ideal male body.
We end up taking advice from bodybuilders because it is so easy to find.
It works; we get big...
too big, and this does not look good.
Lean and toned is where it's at, and it's the body you really want.
The thing is by this stage we are often faced with a new problem, how to lose muscle weight for the lean toned body you really want? Here are some tips to do it 1) Eat under maintenance The first thing is to give your body a kick-start in the right direction, and the good news is if you stop eating like a meat head you'll eventually stop looking like one! You need to start shifting that bulk by creating a calorie deficit, eating below your maintenance level of calories for a while will do the trick.
Since that excess weight is usually fat, you won't need to worry about losing any hard earned muscle size or strength.
Especially if you follow point 2...
2) Keep resistance training to keep your muscle Use it or lose it is the rule.
So be sure to maintain your resistance training program, so as the bulk (and fat) drops off you, you keep your muscle.
This will get you that lean toned look you are after as your muscle definition increases (you can actually see them) 3) Develop the habits that will get and keep you lean Back to eating again.
Most of these points are and with good reason.
The way you eat is the most important thing when it comes to the person you see staring back in the mirror.
If you want to see a lean toned body, you need to identify the daily habits that will get you lean, then adopt them.
Over time these habits become easier and easier until they are eventually just a part of who you are.
This is what is known as "easy street" and it's where those lean toned people who make it look easy live.
It looks easy because it is, and soon it will be for you too.
4) Realise you don't need to eat so much protein! The idea of needing mountains of protein to build muscle is hard on your kidneys, and your wallet.
Researched has proven it is also false.
If you are looking to lose muscle weight you certainly don't need to be working so hard to take on extra protein.
Essentially there is no way of doing this without taking in more calories, and that just makes it harder to get lean in the first place! 5) Make intelligent exercise choices It's not just a case of eat big, lift big.
Have you seen a strongman lately? If this isn't the look for you then ditch the mantra and think about the exercises you use.
Compounds are only the king of exercises if they help you get to your lean toned body goals.
Many people find that the traditional "big 3" exercises, squat, bench and deadlift, do not do them any favours in terms of improving the look and shape of their body.
Don't be afraid of using isolation exercises and better form.
It is not about the weight on the bar, but the effect on your body.
Walk to it! Don't be afraid to walk.
It is low impact, you can do it anytime, anywhere and it is great for burning fat and helping develop a leaner look.
As you sort out your diet and exercise you will find a process of body reshifting takes place, meaning your body adapts to the new routine and this is reflected in a new lean toned body for you.
The muscle you have will be in the right places, and you'll have a lean toned body that turns heads.
