How to Locate Driving Conditions for a Route
- 1). Call 511. If you live in one of over 40 U.S. states that offer this service, you are in luck. In 2001, the United States Department of Transportation instituted a uniform phone number that delivers up-to-date traffic and road condition information. Just dial 5-1-1 to get the information before you go.
- 2). View a live webcam highlighting your route. If you're the type that likes to see it to believe it, check out a live look at your driving route, state by state. You will learn the predicted forecast and be able to see the type of driving terrain that lies ahead.
- 3). Go to the Weather Channel's website and view links for up-to-date road condition information across the United States. You can get weather, traffic and road conditions all in one place.
- 4). Traveling through Canada? Canada's Ministry of Transportation has a website that is a one-stop shop for all things relating to road conditions. You can pull up reports for road conditions and also click on their route map, which has live webcams set up along the roads.
