Materials Inventory

• The materials inventory is a list of all the hazardous materials present in a certain work area. The checklist should be dated when the inventory is completed. The inventory should include the identity, quantity, and location of each hazardous material used in the facility.
  
  

Material Safety Data Sheet

• The material safety data sheet is a thorough description of each item listed in the hazardous materials inventory, and a current sheet should be on hand and documented on the checklist for each material. Some of the information that must be included in the material safety data sheet includes the common name of the substance, its potential health hazards, safe handling procedures, and emergency procedures in case of a spill or accidental exposure.
  
  

Labeling

• Labels must be clearly displayed on all containers of hazardous material. All labels must be able to be read and be written in English as well as any other language spoken by the company's employees. The labels must include information such as the chemical name and the hazard warnings.
  
  

Employee Information and Training

• Employees must be trained to handle all hazardous materials on site and be fully informed about them. The training should enable them to identify and work with all the materials. The checklist should include items such as the various facets of the training program and when they are conducted, as well as an employee training log.
  
  

Written Program

• Written documentation of the hazardous materials must be on site and accessible to employees. The written program must contain detailed information about the individual responsible for the hazardous materials communication program and how to reach her with inquiries. Additional information to include in the written program and to document on the checklist includes the type of labeling system used and location of material safety data sheets.
