Job Security Vs the Milkman

There used to be a lot of professions and jobs out there that just don't exist anymore.
There once was a time when paperboys, phone operators, and milkmen were a common thing.
And it's funny how quickly you forget them.
Or, if you're young enough, don't remember them at all.
I personally don't remember milkmen.
But I sure remember paperboys and operators.
Jobs that were once common disappear and are replaced by larger companies or machines.
It's easy to decry outsourcing of jobs to places like India because that is more tangible.
It's easier for people to get angry at that.
But what is much ,more common is for industries to be wiped out simply by technology.
People hate to hear that the way a job is being done right now is inefficient.
But that's usually the case.
Technology changes the way things are done and we must adapt to these changes or risk getting lost in the past.
There used to be 500,000 phone operators in the US in the 1970's.
Now there are less than 10,000.
Were they outsourced? No.
Computers take care of the process much quicker now.
And people no longer need assistance with call connections.
About the only thing operators do now is give information for 411 calls.
Huge dairy companies deliver milk to the groceries now, eliminating the need for milkman.
That's not to say you can't run a profitable business delivery fresh local organic dairy.
But it takes an adjustment and strategy to do it.
Families deliver thousands of papers to a whole zip code now instead of a single kid covering just a few blocks in his neighborhood.
Even the delivery of newspapers may become obsolete sooner rather than later.
Who reads newspapers anymore.
Or the yellow pages?.
TV repair shops are a thing of the past too.
Back in the 1950s and 1960s when a television costs between 5% & 10% of an annual income, you sure as heck got it repaired.
Now we just toss it out and upgrade if it gets broken.
Technology makes the biggest impact on our lives.
Both positively and negatively.
If we wish to grow and prosper along with it, we must adapt.
Being dependent one one place for your entire income is a danger.
You want as many streams of income as possible; it is the only real job security.
You could work at a job for years, It could be the only thing you know and in flash it vanish and leave you behind.
You must have as many income doors open as you can.
The absolute fastest, easiest, and safest way to create a second income is with eBay.
There are already millions of people there ready to give you their money.
Its global presence gives you an even greater opportunity to make money no matter your local economy is.
Weak dollar means stronger foreign currency.
Someone is always buying.
There isn't an extreme learning curve to it either.
It's simple and there is money being made everyday on eBay.
