Air Canada was founded in 1936 as Trans Canada Air Lines starting its trans continental flights in 1938, however  commenced its operations only on 1st January 1965 after it was named Air Canada and it had its privatization in 1988, went ahead acquiring its largest rival Canadian Airlines in 2001, although it needed bankruptcy protection in 2003, like phoenix it reemerged to celebrate its 70th anniversary successfully, 34 million passengers flying with Air Canada.
