The Truth Behind ADHD Causes

Although the exact cause of ADHD remains a mystery up to this date, due to extensive research and numerous studies, several factors have been proposed regarding ADHD causes.
One of the earliest proposed ADHD causes is said to be linked to brain trauma and injury.
Some children who have ADHD-like symptoms have suffered from brain injury but only a small percentage of children who have ADHD have actually had a history of brain injury.
The most likely cause for the incidence of ADHD is said to be genetics.
A number of studies point to the same results, that is, ADHD runs in the family.
In fact, 25% of immediate relatives of families with ADHD children also have the disorder.
Another of the possible ADHD causes is connected to maternal cigarette smoking, alcohol intake and drug use.
These factors may reduce neuron activity that produces neurotransmitters.
Environmental factors such as exposure to toxins such as lead and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) are also said to be possible ADHD causes.
High levels of lead exposure are observed to cause destructive, violent behavior as well as shorter attention span.
Food and nutrition have also been found to be directly connected with ADHD.
Studies show a link between amino acids and fatty acids and the incidence of ADHD and learning disabilities.
Fatty acids are essential in proper conduction of nerve impulses and play a role in promoting normal brain function.
A deficiency in an essential fatty acid called Omega-3 has been shown to have more trouble related to learning, behavior, and health.
Fish oils and intake of cold-water fish such as tuna, mackerel, and salmon are said to help with ADHD symptoms as these are rich sources of Omega-3.
In addition, foods that have high sugar content, caffeine, additives, and colorings are also thought to be linked to ADHD.
These substances supposedly worsen ADHD symptoms.
Diet modification, an alternative treatment for ADHD, addresses this theory by eliminating the foods containing the ingredients mentioned above from the diet of a patient with ADHD.
Homeopathic remedies may also be used to control ADHD symptoms.
Compared to prescription drugs, homeopathic remedies are not only effective in reducing hyperactivity, impulsivity, and inattention but are also safer and non-addictive.
It is essential that parents of children with ADHD know that one of the ADHD causes is not poor parenting.
A lot of parents feel guilty and blame themselves for their child's disorder.
Just remember, love your child and support him the best way that you can by choosing an ADHD treatment that is safe and effective.
