Hockey Terms You Need to Know

103 14
I love hockey and before our local ECHL(East Coast Hockey League) farm hockey team folded I worked as security at all of the "at home" hockey games.
It is a great sport to be involved with, either as a participant or a spectator.
I really enjoyed the games and even better I was paid to be there.
Hockey may be the most exciting sport there is, yet most Americans know little,if anything about hockey.
It is a real shame and I suggest everyone should go to a couple of games and experience the magic that is hockey.
Here are some terms you may not know.
When you hear the announcer over the public address system talk about these you will have a little better understanding.
Hockey is my favorite sport.
Many Americans do not like hockey, mostly I believe, because they do not understand it.
I have included some terms that are needed to understand the flow of the game.
I have also included the definitions.
I hope this helps you all.
The Crease: An area of ice directly in front of the net, identified by a red border and blue interior.
An attacking player is not allowed to precede the puck into the crease, though the referee is instructed to use his discretion in enforcing this rule, on the "no harm, no foul" principle.
The Freeze: To cover the puck, fall on it, pin it against the boards, or otherwise smother the puck, forcing a whistle to stop play.
