7 Ways to Prep Yourself for Bikini Waxing

Bikini wax? OUCH! You didn't think of the pain, when you signed up for the darn thing, did you? Now that you are spread eagled, lying half naked on the waxing table with a stranger working with molten hot wax, you must be regretting your decision. We aren't going to lie to you – it's HORRIBLE!  Each pull of the waxing strip is like having your skin ripped off. But hey, there are ways you can make the prospects somewhat bearable. Here are quick tips to prep you for your very first bikini wax.

Trim It

You do not have to be a grizzly bear down there. Trim the area a bit, but make sure the hair is at least a quarter of an inch long. Anything shorter than that will be tough to remove. What's more, stubbles from shaving are major bad news. Don't get conscious even if the hair is a bit unruly, the beautician will take time to trim the area first before proceeding further.

Get Your Head in the Game    

Remember the first time your eyebrows were plucked, painful wasn't it? A bikini wax is pretty much the same, perhaps only a 100 times more painful. Don't worry; we are not trying to scare you off. It is good to be familiar with the truth. When the hair is torn out, it ruptures the pores, which may cause some bleeding. But the good news is that the pain is only during the first attempt. The next time, the process will be easier.

Don't Sweat It

Cleanliness will be certainly appreciated by your beautician, but skip the moisturizing part. Excess oil makes the process a tad more painful. If you tend to have naturally oily skin, try applying baby powder to soak up the excess moisture. Also, try keeping calm, since being nervous will only make you sweat more.

Pick the Date

If you are nearing your menstrual cycle, it is best to keep the waxing session for some other time. An apt time would be one week after the menstrual cycle when your pain bearing capacity is the highest. If your hormones are a bit too dodgy lately, making you weep and laugh for the lamest of reasons, then it may be a good idea to delay waxing.

Apply Numbing Cream

If you have a low level of tolerance for pain, then it is a good idea to get your hands on those pain numbing creams. Lather on the cream a few minutes before the waxing session, it will work like mild anesthesia, making you immune to pain.

Practice Deep Breathing

The best way to brace yourself for the numbing pain is by closing your eyes, relaxing your muscles and trying to breathe deeply. Considering the pain each yank brings, it might be not be possible for you to relax, but you can always try. The entire procedure will not take more than 10 minutes.

Avoid Sun

Keep out of the sun for a couple of days before the waxing session. Sun burnt skin is not very welcoming to waxing strips. Wear loose clothes to avoid chafing and rashes.
