    • 1). Start with the hatch cover in place. Position the hinge on the deck and hatch cover with the hinge pin in line with the edge of the cover. Typical hatch hinges have two predrilled holes on each half of the hinge and a permanent hinge pin.

    • 2). Use the predrilled holes in the hinge as a guide and drill 3/16-inch holes through the deck and hatch cover at each hole. Remove the hatch cover to access the underside of the deck. Put a small amount of silicone sealant on the underside of one half of each hinge.

    • 3). Position the portion of the hinge with adhesive over the drilled holes in the hatch cover. Insert 3/16-inch bolts in each hole. Put a large, flat washer on the underside of each bolt. Thread nylon lock nuts onto each bolt and tighten the nuts with a box wrench.

    • 4). Put a small amount of silicone sealant on the underside of the other half of each hinge. Hold the hatch cover vertical and position the hinges over the drilled holes in the deck. Insert 3/16-inch stainless steel bolts in each hole and complete the attachment with flat washers and nylon lock nuts on the underside of the deck.

    • 5). Lower the hatch cover into place. Raise and lower the cover and note any places where the edges of the cover may be rubbing at the deck. Use a belt sander with medium grit paper to sand any edges as needed for smooth operation.
