Ebay - Restricting Sellers From Leaving Negative Feedback

As an avid eBay seller with over 3500 feedbacks, when I heard that eBay was changing the rules on the current feedback system I was alarmed because they are taking away the only defense from bad buyers the sellers had.
Ebay's stats "Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers.
This change will occur in May, 2008.
" I use to sell a lot of retail before I found out the used items have higher profit margins, and make more money.
But, I would get a negative feedback things that were not my fault.
Example: They receive the package and the item did not work, so instead of emailing me about replacing the item or giving a refund they would auto leave a negative feedback, and then demand the refund.
I received several negative feedbacks for the dumbest things because I had my settings set as soon as they paid they would receive a positive feedback from me.
So, they did not have to worry about me giving them a negative feedback.
I was just dumb and trying to do the right thing, but it was not until I changed my settings to not leave a feedback until I received a positive feedback from the seller that the negative feedbacks stopped.
Before it was over I had 26 negatives which is not that bad for a 3000 plus account, but I truly should only have about 5 because we always refunded and replaced merchandise, but the buyers did not care.
I think you are going to see the number of negative feedbacks on seller rise in the upcoming months do to the changes in the feedback system, and a lot of sellers might have to stop selling on eBay completely.
Am I going to stop? No, I love making money and will adapt to whatever rules they throw my way.
They are still the easiest way to sell stuff online, and have the largest buying audience.
If you are a seller make sure you ship out within 2 business days, and have great communication with your buyers.
Also, when ever you have a problem address it right away, and make sure you are checking your emails daily.
This will help you not receive the dreaded negative feedbacks.
One good change from the eBay feedback system is "Positive Feedback percentage will be based on the past 12 months of Feedback, rather than lifetime, since it is most indicative of the seller's recent performance.
" For me this is great because I have not had a negative in over a year so my negative count is going from 26 to 0.
Overall if you do business correctly and have great communication skills you should be fine, but seller's are going to have to step up and preform at a higher level now.
