How to Bond Urethane Rubber to Nylon
- 1). Select a room with low humidity because of nylon's propensity for high moisture pick-up. Raise the ambient temperature of the room 5 to 10 degrees.
- 2). Place all items on a flat work surface. Consider working on a piece of cardboard to avoid getting glue on your work table.
- 3). Scuff the piece of rubber lightly with fine-grit sandpaper or a small metal grater commonly found in a bicycle tube repair kit. Remember to lightly scuff the rubber. You don't want to damage it.
- 4). Apply a thin coat of epoxy glue to the rubber and to the nylon. Let the glue partially cure for 10 minutes.
- 5). Press the rubber and the nylon together for at least 5 minutes. Alternatively, use a weight (such as a stack of books or an iron) to rest on the materials if pressing on them with your hand becomes too tiresome.
- 6). Set the bonded rubber and nylon aside for at least 24 hours before using.
