Since vegetarians don't eat meat, fish or poultry, the most common vegetarian meals consist primarily of vegetables, but also food items like potatoes, noodles and beans. Some people can't understand how a person could have a daily diet without meat, but for vegetarians, it's more about a lifestyle choice than it is a restriction from eating certain foods. There are plenty of meal choices for the vegetarian, and according to the American Dietetic Association, meals that also meet nutrient needs.

    Pasta

    • Of the common vegetarian meals, pasta is among the top selections. Since pasta allows vegetarians to explore a variety of different flavors it can be made many ways. Macaroni, rigatoni, fettucini, angel hair and penne are just a few of the types of noodles for an excellent pasta.

A very simple and common pasta meal only requires your choice of noodles, your favorite pasta sauce and a few fresh veggies. Just cook the noodles, heat the pasta sauce, add fresh veggies to the pasta sauce and your choice of seasoning, then top the pasta noodles with the sauce. Some people add their favorite dressing to the noodles instead of pasta sauce and refrigerate it to make a cold pasta dish.

    Vegetarian Black-Bean Chili

    • This vegetarian recipe takes less than 45 minutes to complete. People make it in different ways but a Martha Stewart recipe offers the most common ingredients. Just heat a tablespoon of olive oil on medium-high heat in a heavy pot. Then add a diced onion and two minced garlic cloves and season with salt and pepper to let cook for about four minutes. Add two chopped zucchinis, two chopped carrots, a tablespoon of chili powder and a teaspoon of ground cumin (if you like any other types of vegetables in your chili, add it at this step too). After about eight minutes add two 19 oz. cans of black beans, one 20 oz. can of crushed tomatoes, one 10 oz. pack of frozen corn and a cup of water. Finally, let it simmer to thicken for about 10 minutes.

    Veggie Burgers and Fries

    • Instead of making a veggie burger from scratch, most vegetarians pick up a pack of veggie burgers from their local grocer. There are a few brands and types of veggie burgers from Grillers, Turkey Veggie and Garden meatless burgers by MorningStar Farms to Tofu Steak meatless burgers by Helen's Kitchen. Simply cook the burger in the microwave for the recommended time, put the burger on a roll or bread of your choice, add lettuce, tomato and ketchup. Meanwhile, bake your potato fries in the oven to add with the burger for a filling vegetarian meal.
