    Dermatological Methods

    • There exist various dermatological ways to deal with unsightly acne scars, from injected collagen to laser treatment. To know which one would work best for you, consult a dermatologist. A dermatologist is qualified to determine the most effective treatment based on the depth, shape, size and location of the scars.

Of course, it can't hurt to know the options available to you. Laser treatment is one of the most recently developed methods for removing acne scars. Among the types of lasers used are the pulsed carbon dioxide laser, used for tightening collagen fibers and the erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser, used on small, irregular-shaped scars. Laser treatment for such scars is often effective after just one treatment. Dermabrasion is the use of a high-speed brush to wipe away the outer layers of skin. One of the older methods in practice, its aim is to give the targeted area a smoother texture. This treatment is effective in reducing scars without eliminating them. Several treatments may be necessary.

A more recent approach is microdermabrasion, which uses aluminum oxide crystals passed through a vacuum tube to remove the outer layers of skin, much like regular dermabrasion. It also necessitates several treatments and does not completely remove scars. Filling in the scars with collagen is another option for removing acne scars. This treatment can be temporarily effective, but requires repeated injections every three to six months. The fat from your own body could be used as an alternative, but even in this case the procedure must usually be repeated about once a year as your body reabsorbs the injected fat. Be advised that if you have a history of autoimmune disease or any allergic reaction to collagen (a product of cows), then this method is not a viable option for you.

    Natural Methods

    • Massaging a Vitamin E capsule and/or rosehip seed oil on your scars is another natural method to deal with scars. Both are instrumental in replenishing your skin. Of course, the Vitamin E capsule can also be taken orally to renew your skin cells from the inside. Also, a combination of rose water and sandalwood paste applied topically to the face can be beneficial. For best results, leave the paste on your face overnight before rinsing off.

    Healthy Habits

    • To combat acne scars, healthy living is a must. Keeping your body hydrated is one of the best ways to to cycle out dead skin cells and thus reduce the appearance of acne scars. Be sure to drink at least two and a half liters of water per day. Also, make sure that you are eating a healthy diet and getting the nutrition you need so that your skin cells replenish naturally.
