Replacing Street Bike Exhausts

To get more horsepower out of the engine and to create a mean sound many street bike and sport bike motorcycle owners will look to replace the stock OEM exhaust with aftermarket aluminum, titanium or carbon fiber slip-on exhausts.
Street and sport bike riders take great pride in the hefty sound of their motorcycles and one of the first adjustments made to any racing bike is the replacement of the exhaust.
Due to regulations street and sport bike manufacturers have to comply with decibel level limits on bikes being sold commercially so the sound of a brand new Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki sport bike may not be what you expect.
Quiet and gentle the sound is not exactly the tone street bike riders want to hear and every motorcycle enthusiasts knows that with a few tools they can replace the stock exhaust with an aftermarket exhaust system that will growl with the power of a real racing bike.
Replacing the OEM motorcycle exhausts on a street or sport bike is relatively easy.
Most racing bike models will require a slip-on motorcycle exhaust which is about as easy as the name implies.
Unlike full system exhausts that require removing several parts of a bike before installation slip-on models can be done rather quickly.
Still, you will want to pay close attention to several areas that can create problems including getting clamps bolted on properly either inside or outside, using the right mounting bracket and having the right washers and collector clamps.
Some bikers make the mistake of thinking a motorcycle exhaust isn't that big a deal and the installation can be rushed.
If you are not careful in making sure all the parts are correct and fit well your bike may be at risk for leaking exhausts gasses which can damage rear bodywork as well as causing long-term damage to the engine.
It may take a little bit longer and seem tedious but it's nothing compared to having to do the job all over again because you cut corners the first time around.
While the increase in horsepower from an aftermarket exhaust is debatable; some say the reduction in overall weight leads to a faster bike but that does not necessarily mean the horsepower of the engine has improved.
Still, a carbon fiber, aluminum or titanium slip-on exhaust will create a much deeper and meaner engine sound that will make everyone notice your sport or street motorcycle.
