Nguyet: I was driving around searching for a daycare for my then 3-year-old that would also give her challenging, early learning opportunities and I drove past this beautiful, wooded small building. I took down the phone number and made arrangements to visit the school.

Description of Services

They have fun, challenging programs that are based on beloved, age appropriate books. They take toddlers up to first graders and are a full day child care facility from 7 a.m.

until 6 p.m. They have full time and part time child care. They offer bus shuttles for the school-aged kids and have art, music, computer, foreign languages, an after-school program, summer camps, and I understand this year they will be installing smart boards for the elementary kids (this year, Loudoun County schools will be trying them out in the high schools only).

Child Care Review Pros and Cons

Pros: The low turnover of staff (some have been there for over 10 yrs.)lends a genuine atmosphere of love and concern for all the children that attend. The personal factor of all staff with the parent/ guardian is priceless! The curriculum for the children really encourages learning, even for young toddlers. They do have field trips for the school aged kids and bring field trips/ activities to the school for the younger kids.

Cons: They open at 7 a.m. and they work on a public school schedule, so unless your child is registered as a full day care kid, if public schools are closed, you cannot leave your child there.

Features and Comments

As of last year, the ranges were from full day program at $950 a month, to part time programs at $125 a month. There are registration fees and supply fees, based on age/ programs. Tuition does not include lunches. There is a $1 a minute late fee after 6 p.m.

Comments: The school has been going through a renovation process. It used to be called Munger Academy, and is now Discovery Oaks as of this summer. The changes and upgrades were well needed to coincide with the great staff and curriculum that the school has. The outdoor playgrounds back up to Claude Moore Park, so it is spacious and full of trees--a great, beautiful area for kids.
