Alternative Remedies For Back Pain

Knowing what to do...
and even more important what *not* to do is imperative when dealing with back pain.
What works for arthritis could be dangerous for a pregnant woman and/or the unborn child.
This is true whether you use standard medical care or alternative remedies.
When the problem is arthritis, damage to cartilage and vertebrae around the spine deteriorates, causing severe pain.
There are times when the various forms of stretching therapy may help arthritis in the back, but a lot of care has to be taken to be sure you are a good candidate for it.
X-rays should be taken to make sure there are no fractures in the vertebrae.
A complete physical and medical history should also be taken.
If you have glaucoma or high blood pressure, inversion therapy is probably a bad idea, but other forms of stretching may benefit.
Make sure the doctor explains all of this to you clearly.
Pregnant women have a special problem when it comes to back pain.
It's almost a certainty that it will happen, but neither pain medications nor herbal preparations are likely to be safe for both you and the baby.
This is especially true towards the end of the pregnancy, when a hormone is released to relax the joints in the pelvis in order to make delivery possible.
Fortunately, heat therapy seems to be effective.
Ask your doctor which method is best for you.
A heating pad, a hot water bottle and other forms of heat may be useful, but avoid hot baths.
This could cause an infection, especially if you are close to delivery.
Injuries to the muscles in the back are also possible.
Car accidents, riding accidents, even picking something up the wrong way can give you sore muscles.
Over use of the back muscles can be just as painful.
Fortunately, there is a lot more that can be done for muscle problems.
Creams, gels and oils that contain capsaicin can deaden the nerve endings and shut down the pain sensation from going to your brain.
They are readily available in most grocery stores.
Make sure to test them on a small area to make sure you skin can tolerate it.
