How to Use Bed Wedges
- 1). Obtain a bed wedge that will allow for a perfectly even crib mattress, once the mattress is placed on top of it. Purchasing commercial bed wedges ensures that the mattress will be propped up evenly and won't wobble and that the infant, toddler or adult will not slide to either side during the night.
- 2). Place the bed wedge under mattress at the head of the bed with the thickest side at the end of the bed so that the mattress is sloped downward. Make sure that the wedge lines up with the sides of the mattress in order to provide an even and firm sleeping environment.
- 3). Adjust the crib or bed sheet so that it tucks entirely under the mattress. If the sheet is not entirely under the mattress, but is against the bed wedge, this can cause the sheet to slip and come off of the mattress and into the bed.
- 4). Adjust any monitoring devices under an infant crib or toddler bed to allow for the bed wedge. Some monitoring system sensors, such as the Angelcare monitor, can be affected by the bed wedge. Make sure that the sensors are not under the bed wedge.
- 5). Place the infant or young toddler in bed, making sure his head is positioned at the head of the bed, where the bed wedge has been placed. An adult needs to lay down in bed with her head in the same place as the child.
