TTC Fare Categories

Toronto's public transit system offers discounted rates to children, students, and seniors. Use this breakdown to figure out which of the TTC's fare categories you fit into - and to see if you could be saving money on your everyday transportation needs.

Adult:

An adult is anyone between the ages of 13 and 64 who isn't attending high school.

Student:

A student is anyone between the ages of 13 and 19 who is a full-time elementary, intermediate or high school* student in Toronto, Durham, Halton, Peel or York.

This includes students who are home schooled and students who reside in Toronto but attend school outside of those regions.

Students need to show their TTC Student Discount Card every time they ride.

*All you post-secondary students out there - don't despair just yet. Even though you don't qualify under the TTC's student fare category, many of Toronto's colleges and universities use the Volume Incentive Pass program.

Senior:

A senior is anyone aged 65 or older. You'll have to prove your age whenever you ride or pay the adult rate. You can use a Driver's License with your photo on it or get a TTC Photo I.D.

Child:

The TTC considers children to be between the ages of 2 and 12. If you're on the older end of that range, you may run into a problem with TTC operators assuming you're old enough to be paying the student or adult fare. That's why the TTC created the Child Proof-of-Age card.

Babies and toddlers under 2 years old can take the TTC for free.
